Happy Sunday to you, my friends. I hope you are having a relaxing morning!

I love the torn paper technique. It's simple and requires no tools!

First, the technique:

• Although you can use any paper with this, it works best if you use a paper with a white core. (This means that in the manufacture of the paper, it was printed on either one or both sides onto a white substrate.)
• Take your paper in your left hand.  Using your right hands' thumb and finger, tear your paper toward you. Tear little by little, maybe one inch at a time.  You want to control how the paper is tearing. It doesn't have to be a straight line. This will give you the white edge on the paper in your left hand. For lefties, just use your right hand and tear with your left.
• I usually cut my paper to the size I want (plus some extra that will be torn off) before tearing.
• Torn pieces work great for clouds, hills, and grass on your cards.

To make this card design, you will need:

• Paper: any white core patterned paper (I used Craft Consortium and Anna Griffin.) I also used black cardstock for my card base.
• Glue stick to adhere the papers to your card
• Items to decorate your card (acrylic gems, stickers, a sentiment)

I started out with black cardstock. I cut it to 5 1/2 inches x 8 1/2 inches.  I folded it in half to make a standard size A2 card base.

1. adhered the first layer of patterned paper (Anna Griffin pink patterned cardstock) to the front of my card. (5 3/8 x 4 1/8) This size creates a 1/8 inch border around my card.
2. chose a second patterned paper (Craft Consortium, double sided paper), cut it to 5 3/8 x 3 inches.
3. held the paper in my hand and began tearing it into my first 1 inch strip.  I turned the paper around and tore the paper again to 1 inch.  I was left with a 1/4 inch strip torn on both sides
4. adhered the two straight edge pieces with one torn side to the top and bottom of my card.
5. adhered the piece that was torn on both sides to the middle of my card.
6. added a variety of die cut shapes and a sentiment to the middle of my card.
7. added some gems

Birthday Butterflies Card

 Hi all,

Today's card is a little different with a two-page front.



Items used:

• Patterned paper -  Maja Designs
• German scrap - gold border
• Paper Tole Butterflies and frame - Hot Off the Press
• Gold Foiled Acetate - Kanban (Create and Craft)
• Rubber stamps - Hampton Arts
• Red line or wonder tape

To make my card:

• I covered my card front (card measures 5 x 6 1/2) with patterned paper
• I prepared my acetate so that I could put it on my card without attaching it so that I could position the gold foil borders correctly
• I added the vertical gold foil border
• I stamped the tea pots border with distress ink in dark purple
• I stamped the tea cups so that the paper tole would cover them.  The person receiving this card (my sister) will open the first page and see the tea cups.
• I added the horizontal gold foil border

• I stamped the inside with a sentiment "Where there is tea there is love"
• My last step is attaching the acetate to my card

To make the acetate layer:

• I took a piece of acetate and added about 3/4 inch additional (horizontal measurement) to the size of the card.
• I scored it on the left.
• I added red line tape (very sticky and strong clear double sided tape) to the back of the small scored side (left)
• I added this to my card and attached it to the left backside. (NOTE: I did this AFTER I finished the card front.)
• I added the paper tole to the right side of the acetate

Happy Birthday Coffee Card

Hi everone and Happy 2016!  I'm still trying to get used to the idea that 2015 is gone!  Boy it was a fast year for me!.  My 2016 goal is to try and live more in the moment.  Ive started meditating (just...only a day) so we'll see if it makes a difference.    I'll let you know.

Today's card is using the Heartfelt Creations Coffee Collection.

Items Used:

• Heartfelt Creations Coffee Talk Collection
• Sizzix Tim Holtz Mini Movers and Shapers Tea/Coffee Cup
• Hot Off the Press Circles and Scallops Die Set
• Gold Pearls
• Vellum (for the "steam")
• Swirly Stamp, sentiment stamp - don't remember the brand
• Satin Card Stock in blue and gold

I cut the coffee cup border longer than the card.  I attached each end to the card and then added a glue dot in the middle and attached the middle too. This gave my border a dimensional wave.

I attached my coffee cup with foam tape. I hadn cut the vellum to resemble steam and attached to the back side of the cup.  The cup is stamped on the front with Staz On in black.

The satin card stock:
My most recent find came through the Create and Craft TV (I watch it on my PC.)  I saw it advertised and decided to take a chance on it.  Its really beautiful.  It's like a foiled card stock but has a brushed satin finish. It's different than everything else.  It cuts well with thin dies and stamps well too (keep in mind that it is a slippery surface).  I really love the effect I get when I emboss with it.

A birthday card for my sister

 

Hi everyone!!  Did you miss me?

I'm hoping that you are enjoying the season!

Today's card is a creation from Hunkydory materials.  It their Enchanted Dreams collection.  I love the red in this.  Its a lot of gold foiling and fantasy and very beautiful.

I wanted to send my sister a lot of cards for her birthday this year.  There's only my two sisters and me and one niece and a nephew left in our family.  It's odd that our line will basically come to an end.  Wow what a thought.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this card.

Postcard Happy Birthday

• Postcard is from a 12 x 12 scrapbook paper that was all postcards.  I think it was Graphic 45

This is another card that was partly made from my stash.  I was cleaning last night trying to get my pile of paper scraps down to  manageable size before they all tumbled to the floor. I found several partly made cards that I hadn't finished.  So, you;; be seeing some of these throughout the month of November.

I had cut the postcard from a piece of 12 x 12 card stock and outlined part of it with bling on a roll.  I tore the other art then layered it onto silver glossy and tore the silver to match the matting.

For my card base I decided on red.  This card was going to be for Valentines last year!  But I made it into a birthday card.  I used a deep purple, green and pink floral pattern to mat the thing ontomy red card base.

I attached a sentiment with mounting tape.

A Happy Birthday Flip Card

Hi everyone,

Today's card features a flip design.  So, when you pull the left and right sides when opening the card, it flips and you see the center rotate to the back side.  I made this birthday card for my brother in law.

Items used:

• Sizzix die (they have several choices of centers including round, rectangle, fancy like mine is, and a couple of others I think)
• Sizzix framelits die set that matches the flip design in the center (I used these thin dies to cut additional pieces that I then layered onto my card label).
• Sizzix/Tim Holtz Frameworks die
• Graphic 45 Steampunk Collection (base card was made from one of these sheets)
• Gold Glossy card, purple card
• Teal Suede Paper from Hot Off the Press
• Acetate with a white lace design
• Spectrum Noir Alcohol Pens (to color the candles)

I had purchased some brown lace from Really Reasonable Ribbon and used one for the double bow.

I added some designs on the right side because I thought it was too plain.  I was going to add gears because this was supposed to be a steampunk theme (my bro-in law loves tools and does beautiful wood work)

Happy Everything! a Birth Card for Sister

I made today's card for my sister who has a birthday.

 

 

Items used:

• navy card stock for card base
• Blue border Dazzles (hot off the press)
• Blue and gold striped paper (hot off the press)
• blue vellum (the blue is a coating) (paper and more)
• gold glossy for tags (EK Success tag punch)
• white birthday word Dazzles

 

This card turned out really nice and has a nice line to it.  Did you notice the blue and gold paper?  Its from Hot Off the Press.  They are selling it now on clearance for 4.95 per pack of 25 sheets. You can beat that.  The gold is really gold and the blue is a rich cobalt.  its a very pretty paper (not card stock).

 

I used the vellum as a layer and tore it (probably the easiest thing you can do with vellum...LOL).  I used Sizzix repositionable sheet to add a layer of adhesive to the back so that you cant see it from the front.

Birthday Wishes

I decided to make  birthday card for my younger sister - her birthday is in January, and this is what I made.

Items in card:

• patterned paper from Bo Bunny
• White Dazzles words Hot off the Press
• lavender plaid ribbon - really Reasonable ribbon
• embellishments - old and from  my stash - they are acrylic flowers  - I got them rom hot off the Press
• white car for card base

I wanted to do this card a little differently.  I cut part of the front cover off.  I used a hole punch and punched two holes in the side of the front panel and threaded my ribbon through it.

I have to say - isn't this plaid wonderful?  I'm on a lavender kick right now but I do love the homey feel that a plaid ribbon gives.

Inside of my card has the rest of the message:

Four Men, a Birthday Card

Today's card can be used for just about any celebration.  I made it to be used for a male birthday though.

The card is an off size being 6  4 1/4.

• Chipboard by Graphic 45
• Metal Bird charm by Idea Ology
• Crinkle ribbon in yellow and blue by Really Reasonable Ribbon (May Arts)
• Gold shimmer paper

This is a good picture of all the gold thin line border dazzles that I used.  I really like how the word paper turned out.  I wasn't sure if the layering would look good.  I think the gold lines help.  The metal bird helps to give a Victorian feel to the card and coordinates well with the chipboard.

 

Sorry for such a fuzzy picture. I'm going to blame it on my cat this time....LOL!  This pic is supposed to show the layering that I did.  Also you can see how I used the gold border dazzles.  I didn't place them on top of the edge of my layers but rather next to them.

Star Light Star Bright...

Today's card is a favorite of mine.  I love the fanciful children's rhyme and the blue glitter on this card.

• Flourish Dies from Couture Creations (Frantic Stamper has these on sale!)

You can get a better look at the silver vellum I used to back the cut out stars on the front of my card.

I used mounting tape (doubled) to attach the sentiment to the front of my card but only at the parts that actually touched. 

 

I used a few rhinestones to decorate the inside.

Happy Birthday Pages Card

 

 

I wanted to make a card with "pages" on the front of it.  I happen to have an EK Success punch tat punches holes for binding (like a book) so I used this to help me create that look.

 

I chose some different papers (and one sheet of transparency) and cut them all to 3 x 2 1/2 and then decorated them all. That was a lot f fun.  I love to add all the little thingies like stickers and buttons and such.  Although I can sometimes go TOO far.

 

I used some really pretty Dazzles stickers (I'm so hooked on them!) I also punched a purple foil border and die cut an oval fancy frame (Spellbinders).

 

 

Once I got my pages decorated, I created a fairly plain card base with white, red and a pretty rose pattern with a touch of foil on it.  I added a red ribbon to match.

 

Now all I have to do if decide which sister to send it to!

Happy Birthday Pages Card

I have a fun card for you today.  I used an EK Success punch to punch the edges of three pieces of patterned paper and then decorated them with Dazzles (Hot off the Press) for the front of my card.

The one thing I would change is the position of the top page (this is the one with the message).  I would have put it in the middle.  Of course this revelation didn't come until well after the glue dried!

The different stickers worked ok to decorate the pages on my card.

Moustache Birthday Card

 

I am seeing a lot of moustaches and top hats.  I found some thin dies by Sizzix that included these and purchased them 

 

I love how this card came out. the moustaches are so cute!  I attached the moustaches with glue dots just in the center. Then I curled the ends so they would stick out.  Of course I cut them out of black cardstock.

 

The vertical piece on the left is a piece of VERTIGO FILM cut and colored with alcohol inks.  Vertigo Film is this really cool film (kind of a thick plastic) with designs in it that cause it to look 3D.  The films come in different patterns.  The one I have above is called pebbles.  The photo doesn't really do it justice.  It's rather slick.

Time to Celebrate!

Today's card is a fun little card I made for a birthday coming up.  I have this ric rac ribbon that 've been wanting to use.  I decided to take it out and see what I could do with it. I've tried making bows with it but they've been ugly failures. SO - if anyone out there knows how to make a good bow out of thin ric rac, give me a holler!

I got this set of clock stamps for about $2 which is a BARGAIN!  The large clock is missing one of the numbers.  I didn't notice and I can always hide it with a pearl or something.  Hey, almost free stamps are great!

 

 

I decided to just crisscross the ric rac on my card.  I stamped a white background with green clocks and added the calendar with the date accented with a pearl. Yes I did curl one of the corners of the calendar.

Celebrate!

 

I'm always looking for a way to make a birthday card a little different-looking.  With Valentine's Day in February and my dad's birthday on the 25th (he's 96 this year-wow!) I thought I'd try to do something in red and gold.

I decided on an ivory card base with a heart border.  I knew I wanted some gold matting and added some pink patterned paper (Bo Bunny) and some plain red also.  I used several Frantic stamper dies to decorate and the Perfect Layers rulers to make my mats quickly and ...well, perfectly ( no lie, these are great).

I'm a blingy kind of person and I used red glitter card.  I wanted a really nice flower so I layered green suede paper for the stem.  I really love crepe ribbon with its wrinkly texture.  I use it on a lot of my projects and I did here. I wanted to add something to fill up the right side of my card and thought it would be fun to have a set of goblets - to toast his birthday.

Now, guess what he material is that I used for a background mat - you know that bright gold, wrinkly paper?  It's crepe paper!  Yup!  Just like the kind we used as kids - except this kind is has a metal coating on it to give it that gold look.  I found this special crepe paper (and tons of colors as well as Desden Foil or German scrap) at Castle In The Air.  I like it so much that Ive added it to my favorites!

Victorian Birds and Cage

 

Hi everyone!  I was working on card ideas today and thought I would make a birthday card using some new papers that I got from Graphic 45.  Their papers are so nice, such a Victorian feel.  I decided on lavender as the main color because that seems to emulate the Victorian era to me.  I found this really great lavender stripe paper that reminded me of wallpaper.  I had some purple suede paper and used that as the mat, and used an ivory card base.

 

I have this Martha Stewart punch that is extra large. It's a challenge using this one on my cards because I usually only work in A2 size.  Today I decided I just had to use it!  I cut my card so that it would fit the punch design and punched the side of the card. It came out ok but I decided a second layer of the punch in lavender would be a good idea. 

I also use gold as a secondary color.  (I even used some gold bling!)  I cut out the Frantic Stamper birdcage die and a couple of birds too.  You may not have noticed but the flying bird is actually the negative cut into the lavender pattern paper. It's not layered on top.  The burgundy bird sitting on the cage is a separate piece of paper. I did this to create some dimension.

 

I wanted to have an open bird cage door.  I did it by using one of the die cut pieces, using mounting foam and reattaching it.  It looks very cool! You cn see in the picture below how I engineered it.

 

I left a place on the card for a Happy Birthday Sentiment which I haven't added yet.
