Modern Valentine's Day Card

Here is a modern Valentine's Day card made with a sticky backed shiny holographic foil.

Modern Romance

Materials:
Paper:
White Cardstock (5 ½” x 8 ½”) American Craft Cardstock – White
Gold Glossy Cardstock (5 ½” x 4”) Foil Coated Gold 8.5"x11"
Holographic Foil (5 ¼” x 4”) -Holographic Hearts WWP-holo-hearts 12"x12"

Embellishments:
Kaiser Craft Rhinestones SILVER,  RED
K & Company Que Sera Sera Borders (with foil) - 22 total pieces 12" long

Tools:
Paper Trimmer – Fiskars
Making Memories The Slice
Slice Design Card Vintage Findings

Directions:

  1. Fold your white cardstock in half to form your card base.  The card opens on the bottom. Set aside.
  2. Glue your valentine background paper to your card base.
  3. Glue your fancy border strip to your card.  (I let the strip go to the edge of my base card and trimmed it there instead of trimming to the mat paper.)
  4. Add acrylic gems alternating in red and clear to the design on your border strip.
    1. NOTE: Since I had an even number of designs, I made a pattern of red, clear, red, red, clear, red rather than alternating so that I could avoid having red on one side and clear on the other.)
    2. Have fun with this and create a pattern!
  5. Using The Slice and the Vintage Findings design card, I cut out the word “romance” and a design element from the gold glossy cardstock.
  6. I attached the word Romance and the design element to my card with glue stick.

This is a fun and quick valentine card that can be made with whatever background paper you want.  Change the word and the color and you can create different cards for different holidays or celebrations. Enjoy!

Sizzix Movers/Shapers by Tim Holtz Window die: Mini Baroque
Sizzix Movers/Shapers  Base Tray
Sizzix Die Sizzix Bigz Die - Birds  (by Rachel Bright)
Sizzix Textured Impressions Medallions, Frames, Damask Set
Sizzix Textured Impressions Floral Flourishes/Vines
Sizzix Textured Impressions Ornate Flowers/Frames
Martha Stewart Photo Corner Punch (Have I mentioned just how much I LOVE this punch?)
Tim's Ink Blending tool
Non Stick Craft Sheet Small:  9"x12"
Inks and Powders:
Ranger Distress Inks
            Barn Door
            Tea Dye
            Walnut Stain

Directions:

  1. Fold your Butter cardstock in half to form your card base.  The card opens on the right. Set aside.
  2. Using a Sizzix (or other die cutting tool), cut out the center of your gold foil with the mini baroque die.
  3. Using a Sizzix (or other die cutting tool), cut out your bird.  The die has two birds on it. I used the one without the legs.
  4. Embossing: I used the large embossing folders from each set as follows:
    1. Red Foil – Ornate Flowers/Frames Set
    2. Gold Foil – Damask Set
    3. Grungeboard Bird– Floral Flourishes/Vines Set (I used the one with the hearts)
  5. Attach the red foil to the gold foil piece, making sure that the embossed design is centered in the opening.
  6. Using the photo corner punch, punch out 4 red photo corners (not embossed) and attach them to the gold/red piece.
  7. Make a bow with your ribbon and attach the bow with a glue dot to the left side of your card (see picture).
  8. Attach the tails of the ribbon on the back of the piece.
  9. Attach this whole piece to your card base. Set aside.
  10. To complete your bird:
    1. Using direct to paper technique, rub Barn Door on your embossed grungeboard bird.  Grungeboard takes embossing really well and the raised design will really pop with the color.
    2. Dry with a heat gun.
    3.  Using a blending tool and craft mat, color first the edges and then most of the bird (except the very middle) with Tea Dye.
    4. Using your blending tool and Walnut Stain, color the edges only of the bird.
  11. Attach your bird to the card with mounting tape.
  12. Add an emerald eye to your bird.

Thanks for stopping by.  If you would like to see a particular technique or style, please leave a comment!

Happy Superbowl Sunday!

Hi everyone!

I hope that you are all having a fabulous day today!  I know that many of you are going to watch the Superbowl.  Have a great time.

As for me, I will be working on some projects for you this week.  I really enjoy working with and designing paper projects of all kinds, especially collage, boxes, cards and such.

I thought this would be a fun card for today.  These are quick and easy to make, you can use your Inchie stamps with them.  Make a set and give to a friend.  What I most love about this card is the Martha Stewart Woodland Branch Punch.  I have to say that I am in love with her punches. They are detailed and just the style that I like.

I call these my "Woodsie" Cards. Enjoy!

Materials:

Paper:
Bazzill Browns
            Java – (5 ¼ x 4) (1 1/8 x 1 1/8)
            Vanilla – (1 ¾ x 4) (1 x 1)
            Fawn – (1 ¼ x 1 ¼)
Bazzill Bling
            Flat Broke Bling (8 ¼ x 5 ½)

Embellishments:
Satin Ribbon Gold 3/8” – 6 inches
Acrylic Gem – 6mm
Champagne Pearls 5mm x 3

Tools:
Martha Stewart Border Punch – Wing Edger Woodland Branch
Paper Trimmer – Fiskars
Cuttlebug Embossing Folder – Victoria
Craft Mat - Small craft sheet is 9"x12"
Inkadinkadoo Inchie Stamp – BIRDS

Inks & Powders:
Ranger Distress Inks
            Walnut Stain -
Clear Embossing Powder - Super Fine Detail

Directions:
1.                  Fold your card base in half (Flat Broke Bling).  The card will open from the bottom.
2.                  Emboss the java (large piece) with Victoria.
3.                  Adhere embossed java to card. Set aside.
4.                  Using your border punch, punch the woodland border on one side of your vanilla 1 ¾ x 4 piece.
5.                  TURN YOUR VANILLA PIECE so that you are looking at the back side of the cardstock. Punch the other side.
a.       This will allow the branches on both sides to point in the same direction.
6.                  Adhere the gold ribbon down the middle of the punched vanilla piece.  Fold the ribbon to the back and adhere.
7.                  Attach your vanilla punched piece to your card, about ½ to ¾ inch in from the left.
8.                  To make your square:
a.       Cut a piece 1 inch by 1 inch square out of vanilla.
b.      Stamp your inchie design on it using walnut distress ink.
c.       Cover the stamped image with clear embossing powder and emboss. (This makes the image come out even better.)
d.      Adhere your inchie to the java piece (1 1/8 x 1 1/8)
e.       Adhere your inchie to the fawn piece. (1 ¼ x 1 ¼).  You should now have your inchie double matted.
9.                  Attach your inchie with mounting tape to your card about ¼ to ½ inches from the bottom.

This is a versatile card.  Change the color and the stamp and you have a birthday card, a mothers day card etc.  For Valentine's Day, punch a heart border and use a heart stamp!  If you have a holly border punch, you have a Christmas card!  I hope you try this one out.
