Tea Bag Folding - Day 2 Five Point Star Fold (My own design!)

Hi everyone and welcome to day 2 of tea bag folding! 

Today's card:  Pentagram

Five-Point Star Fold

1. For this first project, you will need 5 squares of patterned paper, each 3x3.  For this embellishment, choose one paper only.  Also, do not use a thick cardstock.  The folds are very difficult with thicker cardstock.  It can be done, but more difficult.

2.  Here are the folds in order.

Once you have all five squares folded, take two of the finished pieces and overlap the edges.

1. Take one piece in each hand.
2. Slide the left side triangle piece in your right hand beneath the right side triangle in your left hand. (Sorry if this is confusing -)
3. The pattern that I used is left over right.

1. Use glue dots to attach one to the other.
2. Take the next piece and attach it next.  Work your way through all the pieces until they are all attached. 
3. When you attach your last piece, you will need to attach the piece on the right also to complete the circle.
4. Now that the star is completed, all I did was add it to my card.  (The star I made was a little loose so I pushed the outside edges to the center so that there would be no opening in the center.  Since the back of this medallion is flat, I used a strong liquid glue to glue it to my card.)
5. My paper was two sided.  I took the star point (I am holding one in the picture below) and folded it forward to make a little triangle.

1. I added gold Liquid Pearls and a small ivory tassel.
2. There are tons of variations to the basic teabag fold in my sample. Design Originals had a book called Tea Bag Sampler some years ago. It is a great reference.

Tea Bag Folding Home Embellishments for Cards!

Hi everyone and welcome to the weekend!  This weekend I would like to share with you some TEA BAG FOLDING cards.

No, we are not going to fold tea bags (I wonder if that's how this got started...)

Tea Bag folding is not a new art form. In fact, it's been around a long time.  The essence of tea bag folding is to take a square of paper and make folds.  The folds create a design.  When several of these folded squares are put together, they make medallions.

To make the petals for my medallion stand out a little more I took some Vintage Photo distress ink and edged the outside of the medallion AND also a little of the overlap as well. When I inked the edges, I allowed the points of the star to curl.

Simple Star Fold

• The completed piece contains 8 folded squares.  Each square has five folds. (Remember that you can change the size of your finished medalion simply by using a larger or smaller square of paper.)

• For the photo showing the first two pieces being placed together , I used one plain piece and one patterned paper piece so that you could see better how the two pieces would go together.  You will note that the white piece fits into the slit of the other piece.

Here is my finished star.  You will notice that in this medallion, I have a hole in the center, most finished medallions do not.  In order to get a great fit, you need to fold accurately.
